![]() ![]() We had chicken salad (or more precisely salad with grilled chicken), with well grilled, juicy pieces of chicken, although the salad could be better (there were a few brown edged and wilted leaves which hurt the overall appearance). Seating is very comfortable with good spacing in the dimly lit sports bar style dining room with exposed brick walls, most tables are 4 tops, a couple of wrap around banquettes, row of high tables in back near the bar (there is also space in the basement as well as the second floor which can be booked for private events). but too sunny in the morning even with the small umbrellas (as it's east facing) so we opted to sit inside by one of the two tables by the window. There is an outdoor patio on the wide sidewalk. Thought they had brunch but turned out only on Sundays which was a bummer. This restaurant just opened this year so finally found an opportunity to go on a Saturday. If you are looking for a nice and affordable space for a reunion, birthday party, rehearsal dinner, or anything else, in a family run small business that will do the utmost to show you a good time, this is it! More DC can be expensive, snooty, and pretentious (I’ve lived here nearly 50 years so I know), The Avenue is anything but. They did not require a rental fee or deposit for the event we were just billed for the food (pre-orders) plus gratuity and what we consumed at the cash bar. The catered upscale pub food (mini crab cakes, sliders, dumplings etc) was excellent and very affordable. Her family manages The Avenue and it is evident that they take are committed to giving their customers the best experience possible. Jessica was our host and bartender she was so nice, friendly, and helpful in every way possible. We had our own private cash bar and bartender all evening and own bathrooms (2). only for us and was perfect for our event: spacious with plenty of seating, cocktail tables flat screen TVs, one of which projected photos from my laptop (their staff was a huge help in setting it up) upscale yet with a friendly pub atmosphere. I made the arrangements with them and they were so accommodating to what I requested. The Avenue did a terrific job in hosting a reunion of about 35 people who worked together in the late 1970s through late 1990s.
